You’re Being Seen…So Why Isn’t Anyone Getting in Touch?

You’ve done the hard bit. You’ve got your professional looking website, you’ve added your services and products, you’re showing up consistently on social media and posting your business in countless Facebook groups, you’ve stuck flyers up in every public space within a 100 mile radius…

So why does it still feel like it’s not enough?

Because here’s the truth - being visible isn’t the same as getting enquiries.

And that gap? That’s where most businesses get stuck.

If you’ve ever thought “people are landing on my website, but no one’s actually enquiring”, then spare 5 minutes to give this article a read.

Visibility Gets You Seen. Enquiries Pay the Bills.

Visibility is what gets people to your website. Enquiries are what get people to contact you.

Google, social media, referrals and word of mouth can all do a brilliant job of putting your business in front of the right people. But once someone lands on your website, something else has to happen.

Your website has one very important job to do: to help someone quickly understand what you do, who you help - and what they should do next.

If that doesn’t happen clearly enough, they don’t enquire - even if they like what they see.

When a Website Exists, But Doesn’t Actually Do Anything.

This is the bit where people usually assume something is “wrong” with their business. It rarely is.

What I see far more often is this:

  • Services aren’t instantly clear

  • Pages talk about the business, not the customer

  • There’s no obvious next step

  • The language makes sense to you - but not to them

  • The website looks polished, but it doesn’t help them make a decision

And no - this doesn’t mean your website is bad! It just means it’s doing what a lot of websites do: existing, rather than working.

From an SEO point of view, Google might already be doing its job. You might even be ranking well. But SEO alone can’t force someone to enquire.

People don’t need convincing. They need clarity.

Let’s Make This Real - Meet Mary

Let’s take a service-based business - say an accountant.

Their ideal client - the lovely Mary from Glossop - is currently looking for an accountant. She types in Google:

“accountant for small businesses near me”

Mary clicks through to a website that comes up near the top of the search and then sees all this stuff that makes her want to run for the hills.

A big mission statement. A dull paragraph about values. A list of services written in industry language. No clear call to action.

Yes, the business looks wonderful and credible but Mary still doesn’t know:

  • Is this for me?

  • Do they work with businesses like mine?

  • What happens if I get in touch?

So she leaves. Not because she wasn’t interested - but because nothing helped her decide.

This happens every single day across established SMEs.

The Stuff That Makes People Actually Get in Touch

Hands down - these are the things that make the biggest difference:

  • Clear services – right there in their face - as soon as they land on your homepage

  • Clear language – written for real people who need things explaining (think your 90 year old grandma)

  • Clear locations – include where you’re based on EVERY page - crucial for local SEO

  • Clear calls to action – tell people exactly what to do (they like it, honestly)

  • Consistency – Google, your website and messaging all aligned

When these things work together, something shifts. The right people land on your website (and that’s the difference) and instead of browsing, they enquire.

Why You Can’t Always See the Problem (it’s Normal!)

This is the part I see business owners struggle with the most - and it’s not their fault.

You know your business inside out - you know what you mean, you know how it all fits together.

But your ideal customer - let’s call her Mary - doesn’t have a clue. She’s looking for someone to tell her exactly how they can help her in plain, simple terms - usually within the first 10 seconds of landing on their website.

It’s about changing your perspective and thinking like Mary.

And that’s why having someone outside your business look at how it shows up online can unlock things you’d never spot yourself.

SEO Gets Them There. Your Website Does the Rest

How you’ll find me most days - with a brew in my hand!

Last month I talked a lot about local SEO and getting found online — and this is the natural next step.

Google might already be sending you the right people. But if your website isn’t clear enough, those people won’t convert.

SEO gets people there. Your website gets them over the finish line.

That’s why visibility and conversion have to work together. One without the other just creates frustration.

If You’re Thinking “Yep… That’s Me”

If you’re reading this thinking:

  • “People find me, but don’t enquire”

  • “My website looks fine, but something’s missing”

  • “I don’t have time to figure this out myself”

That’s exactly why I do what I do! Business owners are often too busy, tired or stressed to do this stuff themselves - let alone learn it first!

I don’t do more noise (my house is noisy enough). You don’t need to do more posting. You just need clearer visibility, better structure and a website that actually does its job.

Sometimes a few small changes make a very big difference.

Being visible gets you seen.
Being clear gets you chosen.

And that’s what really moves a business forward.
